Our New Director!
Rev. Amy Steele
Rev. Amy E. Steele, Ph.D. is an inspiring social ethicist, ordained minister, entrepreneur, and certified spiritual director with a passion for fostering meaningful dialogue and personal growth. With over 25 years of experience, she has led transformative conversations and classes on topics such as religion and society, spiritual formation, religious history, and women's civil rights history. A devoted scholar of Howard Thurman’s works, Rev. Amy is committed to the art of listening, asking thought-provoking questions, and curating narratives that promote soulful well-being.
Above all, she cherishes her role as a mother to her wonderful college-aged son. In her free time, Dr. Amy finds joy in writing, enjoying good music, sharing meals with loved ones, and embracing the tranquility of nature. Deeply rooted in the culture of the U.S. South, she travels to explore the interconnectedness of our global community, seeking to deepen her understanding of hope, freedom, redemption, and prophetic love.
As the new campus minister at the TSU Wesley Foundation, Rev. Amy looks forward to journeying alongside students, nurturing their spiritual growth, and fostering a vibrant community of faith.
ABOUT US
WE ARE FAMILY

We are located on the campus of Tennessee State University across from the TSU Hale Football Stadium. We are sponsored by the United Methodist Church. At the Wesley Foundation, we hold weekly worship services, Bible studies, leadership programs, forums, and community service opportunities. The Wesley Foundation offers a quiet spot to study and a comfortable space to make friends and have fun.
WE ARE DEEPLY ROOTED IN OUR COMMUNITY
The Wesley Foundation campus ministry at Tennessee State University was initiated by Ms. Ruth McDowell, a dedicated faculty member and United Methodist. Recognizing the need for spiritual and moral support among students, she organized a fellowship to help them during their college years.

WE ARE LEADERS
Leadership development is an intentional and essential component of the Wesley Foundation. Every encounter provides an opportunity to cultivate young adults' leadership skills, including a dependable work ethic, social responsibility, good stewardship, tolerance, respect, inclusivity, and a vision of how the world can become a better place for all people. We use social networking and teamwork to create innovative spaces for worship experiences through music, drama, art, spoken word, and dance.
WE SERVE
On campus, we are regarded as the "brokers" of meaningful community service opportunities for most major student organizations. We partner with local churches to feed the hungry, clothe the needy, build playgrounds in underprivileged neighborhoods, mentor young people, lead freedom schools, and participate in building houses for Habitat for Humanity as ways to learn how to serve.
